The term Triceratops, which literally means “three-horned face”, is derived from the Greek tri (three), kéras (horn), and ops (face). Bearing a large bony frill and three horns on its large four-legged body, and possessing similarities with the modern rhinoceros, Triceratops is one of the most recognizable of all dinosaurs. Individual Triceratops were estimated to reach up to 29ft in length, 9ft in height and could weigh up to 12 tonnes! The most distinctive feature is their large skull, among the largest of all land animals.
